Yamaguchi Knowledge

Yamaguchi marks the western end of Honshu. It is a land of white snakes, limestone caves, and the tragic history of the Heike clan.

Historical Context

The site of the Battle of Dan-no-ura, where the Heike clan perished. The feudal domain of Choshu played a key role in the Meiji Restoration.

Local Folklore

Iwakuni is famous for natural white snakes believed to be messengers of Benzaiten. Dan-no-ura is haunted by Heike ghosts.
