Tokushima Knowledge

Tokushima is the gateway to Shikoku, famous for the Awa Odori dance and the wild Oboke gorges. Its rugged mountains are deep with yokai lore.

Historical Context

Historically Awa Province, it is famous for indigo dye. The deep mountains provided refuge for defeated Heike warriors.

Local Folklore

The mountains of Yamashiro are known as a 'Yokai Village', said to be the home of Konaki-jiji (Old Man Crybaby).
