Shimane Knowledge
Shimane is the 'Land of the Gods' (Kami-no-kuni), where all the gods of Japan gather annually at Izumo Taisha.
Historical Context
Izumo was a powerful ancient kingdom with its own mythology distinct from Yamato. It is the setting for many Kojiki myths.
Local Folklore
During Kamiarizuki (Month of the Gods), all kami meet here. The entrance to the underworld, Yomotsu Hirasaka, is also located here.
