Oita Knowledge

Oita is Japan's hot spring capital, famous for the 'Hells of Beppu'. It is a place where the boundary between the human world and the inferno is thin.

Historical Context

Known as Bungo Province, it was a Christian stronghold in the 16th century. Usa Jingu is the head shrine of thousands of Hachiman shrines.

The Beppu Hells are guarded by Oni. The Kamado Jigoku features a demon cook who uses the steam.
