Ibaraki Knowledge
Ibaraki offers a mix of science and myth, from Tsukuba's research center to the ancient Mount Tsukuba. It is the land where Masakado's rebellion began.
Historical Context
Hitachi Province (Ibaraki) was the base of Taira no Masakado's uprising in the 10th century. Mount Tsukuba has been mentioned in poetry since the Nara period.
Local Folklore
Mount Tsukuba is famous for the 'Gama' (toad) and its magical oil. The region also hosts many sites connected to the life and death of Masakado.
