Chiba Knowledge
Chiba encompasses the Boso Peninsula, a land of fishing villages and samurai legends. It is notably the setting for the epic 'Nansō Satomi Hakkenden'.
Historical Context
The Satomi clan ruled this region in the Sengoku period. Their history inspired the famous Edo-period novel about eight dog-warriors.
Local Folklore
The Satomi Hakkenden is the region's defining legend, featuring a curse, a dog-husband, and crystal beads. The coast is also known for sea-witches (Iso-onna).
